Location: Sonoma, CA Size: 1,700 sf

Designed for a cycling enthusiast with a demanding professional career, this house serves as an important retreat and base to explore the picturesque Sonoma landscape that surrounds it. Taking the traditional farmhouse and its notions of sustenance and community as inspiration, the house is consciously restrained, a sanctuary in which to recharge with family and friends. Lead Designer, Kyle Gaffney of SkB Architects, described the vision for the space: “Simplicity is the word. You understand it from when you pull up to the site, lots of detail, but clear detailing, you understand how things are going together, there’s no mystery. Materials complement each other but are not fighting for attention. There’s a serene, peaceful quality to the space and it’s like a lens to the front and back of the site because of the glass on both sides.”
