Location: Seattle, WA
SkB was commissioned by a large national developer to explore a variety of residential and residential + office configurations for a site along Seattle's waterfront. Particular emphasis was placed on the ground plane which was designed to be very accessible to the public and featured a market hall-like concept that would serve as an amenity to tenants and residents as well as the greater community. To further increase the per square foot yield as well as achieve daylight opportunities from both sides of an apartment, a scissor unit layout mix was employed. The interlocking design provides a way of maximizing the space given to units by reducing the space needed for entrance corridors and providing a dual aspect for each dwelling.
