On Monday May 8th, Washington State Employees Credit Union broke ground on a new 7-story, 66,750 SF office building located at the corner of NE 45th St and 12th Ave NE in the U-District. Retail and community spaces will take up the ground level, including a new WSECU branch, and the building will have 3 levels of below grade parking.

Significant attention was paid to activating the ground-plane and streetscape with community-oriented uses, pedestrian scaled building elements, and engaging public environments. A driving goal was to balance responsiveness to the neighborhood with a distinctive identity for WSECU. The building’s recessed corner “lantern” design element is destined to be a new neighborhood icon while the building’s façade and openness will harken back to the U-District’s academic and community-minded roots.
