Muckleshoot Elders Complex

  • The MIT Senior Center is a community center designed as part of a larger Elders Complex master plan that also included assisted living/hospice facilities and senior apartments. Despite the size, the goal was to create a residentially scaled facility that also had a strong entry presence for visiting guests from other tribes. The scheme is organized into two wings flanking the lodge-like entry lobby. One wing contains the main dining hall with a view of Mount Rainier. This room can be subdivided and used for lectures/presentations and is adjacent to a commercial kitchen. The other wing contains craft rooms, a media room, and administrative offices. The grounds surrounding the building also contain seating areas, a medicinal herb garden, and a covered salmon bake area.
