SkB Architects Published in “New Northwest: Residential Architecture in the Evergreen State” Book
SkB Architects has been selected for publication in New Northwest: Residential Architecture in the Evergreen State, a forthcoming book by design journalist Lauren Gallow examining contemporary residential architecture across Washington State.
The book brings together three dozen homes and the architects behind them to examine how residential design in the Pacific Northwest is evolving. Landscape and climate are part of that story, but so are changing ways of living, smaller footprints, existing buildings, material choices, and the relationship between indoors and out.
SkB Architects is featured among a group of practices shaping that conversation across Washington. The selection reflects a body of residential work that has developed over decades and across very different sites, from city homes and renovations to houses embedded in rural and remote landscapes.
Residential architecture has always been an important place for SkB Architects to study how people live. A house makes the consequences of a design decision unusually immediate. Where morning light enters, how someone arrives home, what is protected, what is opened to the landscape, and where people naturally gather become part of the architecture.
New Northwest places those questions within a larger examination of what residential architecture in this region is becoming.
