SkB Architects Lectures at the University of Washington Commercial Real Estate Program
Each year, SkB Architects founding partners Shannon Gaffney and Kyle Gaffney are invited to lecture in the University of Washington Commercial Real Estate Program, bringing architectural practice into conversation with the people who will shape how cities are financed, developed, and built.
The lectures look at architecture from the other side of the drawing table. How do changing expectations for the workplace affect the value of commercial real estate? What makes a mixed use development useful beyond the boundaries of its site? How should owners think about design when markets, tenants, and ways of working continue to change?
Drawing from SkB Architects' work across workplace design, commercial real estate, mixed use development, and urban projects, Shannon and Kyle examine the decisions that connect design ambition to development realities. The conversation moves between economics, changing patterns of use, long term value, and the experience of the people who eventually occupy a building or piece of city.
The annual invitation also puts SkB Architects in a useful exchange with emerging developers, investors, and real estate professionals. They bring different questions to architecture. Those questions are worth staying close to.
