Inn At The Market

Inn at the Market is the only hotel located within Seattle's historic Pike Place Market. SkB Architects renovated the boutique hotel's guest rooms, suites, lobby, and public spaces, drawing from the materials and character of the Market while giving guests a quiet place to return to after being out in the city.

Custom furnishings, natural materials, and carefully considered details carry through the hotel. The rooms retain a sense of their particular Seattle setting, with views toward Pike Place Market, Elliott Bay, the city, and the Olympic Mountains.

Concept

Pike Place Market is part of the experience of staying here. Guests step outside into a working market of shops, restaurants, produce stands, fishmongers, florists, and craftspeople, then return to rooms that need to offer some distance from all of that activity.

The renovation takes cues from the Market without trying to reproduce it. SkB Architects designed custom beds, seating, casework, and other furnishings for the guest rooms, giving the hotel a consistent character that could not have come from assembling standard pieces. Materials and details were chosen to feel comfortable with the age and texture of the surrounding Market while keeping the rooms calm and uncluttered.

The Market outside the door

Inn at the Market sits on Pine Street within the Pike Place Market Historic District. Restaurants, shops, produce stands, and the waterfront are reached on foot, while guest rooms and the hotel's rooftop look across Elliott Bay, downtown Seattle, and the Olympic Mountains.

That proximity shaped the renovation. The hotel does not need to manufacture a sense of Seattle inside its walls. The city is already present through the windows and immediately outside the door. The interiors can therefore be quieter, giving guests a place to rest before returning to the Market.

Made for the Inn

SkB Architects designed furniture specifically for the hotel's guest rooms, including beds, seating, and casework. The dimensions, materials, and details were developed as part of the rooms themselves, allowing storage, work surfaces, lighting, and places to rest to fit comfortably within the existing building.

That level of attention matters in a boutique hotel, where a room has to accommodate a surprising number of small routines. A suitcase needs somewhere to land. A guest needs a place for coffee, a laptop, a book, and the things emptied from a pocket at the end of the day. The custom pieces make room for those ordinary moments while giving Inn at the Market an identity particular to the property.

A quiet retreat in a busy place

Inside the guest rooms, the palette is restrained. Wood, textured fabrics, warm neutral surfaces, and daylight create a calmer setting against the activity immediately outside. Large windows keep the Market, Elliott Bay, and Seattle skyline present without asking the interiors to compete with them. The hotel's current rooms include custom crafted beds and spaces for working as well as resting.

The renovation carries that approach through the suites, corridors, lobby, and public spaces. Each has its own demands, but they share a material and architectural vocabulary developed for this particular hotel in this particular part of Seattle.
